Acceptable Use of AI Policy

I understand that my child is subject to the school's Academic Integrity Policy and is expected to uphold honesty, responsibility, and ethical conduct in all academic work. I recognize that while AI tools may be used as learning aids when permitted, they should not replace my child's own thinking, effort, and understanding. I support the responsible use of AI and acknowledge that any misuse, including presenting AI-generated work as entirely original, may result in consequences in accordance with school policies.

Guidelines on the Responsible Use of AI in School Requirements
These guidelines are created to ensure that students use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in a responsible, ethical, and meaningful way that supports learning rather than replacing it. AI tools include chatbots, writing assistants, translators, design generators, and other digital technologies that help produce content or provide information. In line with the MATATAG Curriculum and the Strengthened Senior High School Program, students are expected to develop integrity, critical thinking, and independent learning skills while using these tools.

Students are expected to uphold academic integrity in all submitted work. This means that all outputs must reflect the learner’s own understanding, and honesty must always be practiced in completing tasks. While AI may be used as a support tool, it should never replace the student’s own thinking and effort. Learners remain fully responsible for everything they submit, even when AI assistance has been used. It is also important that students respect intellectual property and avoid presenting AI-generated content as entirely their own original work without proper acknowledgment.

The use of AI is allowed in specific learning situations by the students for the purpose of:
• To better understand lessons, clarify difficult concepts, or explore examples that can deepen their understanding.
• To help improve grammar, sentence structure, or to suggest ideas and outlines when preparing written tasks.
• To assist in providing general background information or generating keywords that can guide further study.
• To use for brainstorming ideas or drafting content, but final outputs should still be revised, improved, and personalized by the student to reflect their own voice and learning.

However, there are limitations to ensure fairness and academic honesty. Students may only use AI for certain parts of their work when it is clearly allowed or properly disclosed. AI assistance should always be followed by revision, verification, and personal input. It is strictly prohibited to submit fully AI-generated essays, reports, or answers as if they were entirely created by the student. The use of AI during quizzes, tests, or examinations is not allowed unless explicitly permitted by the teacher. It is also unacceptable to misrepresent AI-generated work as fully original or to fabricate data, sources, or references using AI tools.

Prohibited Uses and Activities
Disclosure of Confidential Information
A. Users are prohibited from inputting or sharing any confidential institutional information, including but not limited to student records, financial data, or proprietary research, into AI tools without explicit authorization.
B. Personal identifying information of students, faculty, or staff must not be entered into AI systems.
Academic Dishonesty
A. Using AI to complete assignments without proper attribution or permission is strictly prohibited.
B. Submitting AI-generated content as one's own work without disclosure is considered a violation of academic integrity policies.
Harmful or Discriminatory Use
A. AI tools must not be used to create or propagate content that is harmful, discriminatory, or violates the institution's code of conduct.
B. Generation of misleading or false information using AI tools is prohibited.
Unauthorized Access or Manipulation
A. Attempts to bypass security measures or gain unauthorized access to AI systems are strictly forbidden.
B. Manipulation of AI systems to produce biased or inappropriate outcomes is prohibited.

When AI has been used in any part of an assignment, students are expected to acknowledge it properly. Use of AI-generated content without proper citation will be considered a violation of the institution's academic integrity policy. A simple statement such as indicating that AI was used for brainstorming, editing, or idea generation is sufficient, provided that the student clearly demonstrates that the final work has been reviewed and improved independently. Teachers may require more detailed disclosure depending on the level of the task.

Teachers play an important role in guiding students in the responsible use of AI. They are responsible for explaining when and how AI may be used appropriately, ensuring that tasks promote independent thinking, and checking the authenticity of student submissions. They also provide feedback to help students improve their understanding and skills while maintaining academic honesty.

Users must adhere to institutional policies, including but not limited to academic integrity, data protection, and information security policies. Innovative applications of AI in teaching, learning, or administration are encouraged, but must be documented and approved by relevant departments. Any misuse of AI tools may result in consequences depending on school policies. (Refer to Academic Integrity and Policy)

Ultimately, AI should be seen as a learning partner that supports understanding and skill development, not as a replacement for effort or thinking. Students are encouraged to use AI to enhance their learning experience while still developing their own ideas, judgment, and creativity in line with the goals of the MATATAG Curriculum.
